Everything has a beginning.
Birds. Plants. People. Pain.
Sometimes I go to the cemetery.
Walk down the path and find where the babies are buried.
They didn’t have much time on this earth,
The ones who said goodbye just right after birth.
I Read the dates etched in stone,
Still and alone.
The dates proof they had a beginning.
Not you.
I stole the beginning from you.
You should have a stone like these little ones do.
But the end of your beginning,
was the beginning of my end.
See, Even ends have beginnings.
Everything has a beginning.
You had fingers, toes, and eyes,
features even I could recognize.
I wanted to let your beginning continue
But my fear let us undervalue
The truth of your life, your soul, your humanity,
The beginning of my maternity.
Everything has a beginning.
And when I gave way to manipulation,
That dirty organization,
The one that takes money for medication,
A pill to kill,
It was the beginning of death.
For you.
For me.
But do they see?
Do they walk in the cemetery,
And see the sorrow I carry?
Looking for some kind of consolation
Even these stones are a celebration,
Of life that was had and lived and begotten,
But yours,
Oh yours,
Its just…
Forgotten.
You had a beginning!
I promise you did!
And little one, I apologize,
Because we just don’t recognize,
The humanity
in the beginning.
